Basic Life Support (CPR)
Course Aims:
This course is intended to provide participants with the minimum core knowledge and skills required to provide basic life support care to suddenly ill or injured persons prior to the arrival of professional EMS personnel particularly in the case of administering breathing assistance and CPR to unresponsive individuals and emergency assistance to choking individuals.
Target Audience:
Existing or aspiring fitness instructors, personal trainers or fitness centre management staff.
Course Description:
The 3-hours course covers the following topics:
§ Introduction introduces participants to the Roles and Responsibilities of the First Aider as well as to the concepts of consent and confidentiality
§ Initial Emergency Response covers the initial essential moves required in positioning an unconscious person to the recovery position, how to open and maintain an open airway, provide rescue breathing and manage an obstructed airway
§ Scene Assessment reviews how to perform an initial scene assessment as well as ongoing assessments of an injured/critically ill person while awaiting assistance
§ CPR shows participants how to perform an adult rescuer CPR
§ Recognising and responding to problems covers a number of auxillary situations that may be encountered, including recognizing the warning signs and symptoms of various medical problems, recognizing and caring for a decreased level of responsiveness, controlling external bleeding, recognizing internal bleeding and recognizing and caring for shock
