Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant
Course Aims:
Research tells us that fit and healthy people are a small portion of the population 15% in the United States and other countries. The rest of the population has a number of barriers to overcome in their quest for health and fitness. The Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant course builds on a strong foundation in personal training to enable trainers to develop sound, balanced programs that bring together the 3 critical components of nutrition, exercise and lifestyle change to assist clients with weight management issues – be they weight gain or fat loss.
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
§ Understand your clients' motivation and psychology, body composition and exercise needs;
§ Assist your clients in recognising and identifying their personal barriers to adoption of a healthy lifestyle;
§ Know how to effectively motivate different clients, communicate your advice and reinforce behaviour change so as to assist different clients with different needs and personalities modify old habits and create new, healthier eating and exercise behaviours;
§ Design fitness and weight management programs to help your clients resolve their weight and lifestyle issues.
The 45-hour course prepares participants for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Lifestyle and Weight Management Certification exam.
Course Description:
The Lifestyle and Weight Management course is made up of four modules as follows:
Client Assessment – this module focuses on interview and communication methods, client screening for referral and program development; determination of a client profile and recognition of the conditions and behaviours that may necessitate referral to other healthcare professionals.
Development of Client Plan – this module focuses on how to properly use assessment data to formulate a client weight management plan, how to work with your client to establish realistic and achievable long- and short-term goals and how to create a client weight management plan.
Implementation and Facilitation of Client Plan - this module focuses on maintaining a constructive professional relationship through providing instruction and monitoring using a variety of techniques and materials.
Professional Responsibility - Communication of the scope and limitations of the professional relationship; Applicable laws, regulations and scope of practice; Documentation of client-related data, communications and progress; Assurance of continuing competence and professional growth; Initiation of emergency procedures; adherence to the ACE Code of Ethics; insurance recommendations.
Class size:
Class size will be limited to 8 participants per class. A minimum of 4 participants is required to start a class.
